The Vision of Laurel’s Wood CIC
Laurel's Wood Community Interest Company is dedicated to creating a vibrant and welcoming space where nature and communities thrive together. We are governed by 4 Key Objectives and as a non-profit organisation, any revenue generated is reinvested into delivering those objectives. We run a targeted program of work that aims to meet the needs of the community. At Laurel’s Wood, community groups, schools, families, and businesses come together in a tranquil setting to experience the wellbeing benefits of connecting with nature. Our sustainable approach to woodland management aims to enhance the woodland’s biodiversity, ensuring that it remains a cherished resource for future generations.

Objective 1
Protect Nature and Wildlife
Laurel’s Wood CIC launched a 10-year Woodland Management Plan, which aims to ensure long-term resilience and sustainability. Approved by the Forestry Commission, the plan focuses on regenerative felling, boosting biodiversity — especially red squirrel conservation — and improving access for community use. In 2023, access routes were cleared, drainage was repaired, and tree thinning revitalised the woodland. Baseline ecological surveys were conducted to assess wildlife habitats and explore ways to support it — a significant milestone being the discovery of a healthy red squirrel population! We continue to partner with Lancashire Wildlife Trust to preserve this habitat.
Objective 2
Support Community Nature Engagement
At Laurel’s Wood CIC, we aim to connect communities with nature, providing a space where everyone can enjoy its wellbeing benefits. While nature boosts physical and mental health, many face barriers like limited access and financial challenges. We're committed to breaking these barriers by offering inclusive opportunities for all — especially those from underrepresented groups — to experience the transformative power of the outdoors and reduce green space inequality.
Objective 3
Provide A Venue for Businesses
Laurel’s Wood CIC aims to provide a venue for businesses with shared values to deliver services, by creating and maintaining a useable woodland space. We offer flexible licences, fair hire costs, and support to help you operate successfully in a natural environment. We aim to establish a supportive and collaborative community of enterprises and can signpost you to training and support. Come, do your thing, and we’ll support you to make it successful and sustainable.
Objective 4
Provide A Venue for Events
We aim to provide a versatile venue suitable for a wide range of events — from wellbeing retreats to corporate days, special celebrations, charity events, educational workshops, weddings, festivals and cultural events.
Laurel’s Wood CIC will curate high quality, outdoor experiences that enhance your connection to nature and each other. Watch this space as we roll out a programme of events throughout the year. Think educational sessions, community gatherings and seasonal celebrations!
Private hire opportunities are also available.
